The Food Avenue contributors have been busy this month, checking out the latest foodie places. My Brisbane correspondent, Scott Wyatt, takes a look at the latest New York burger place.
Nary a year after opening their New York inspired eatery in Stones Corner, Marissa and Todd Clayton have set their sights on the north side of town opening a table serviced version of their '5 Boroughs' eatery on Racecourse Road in Ascot.
"We want to bring something new to Racecourse road as there's not a lot of restaurants along here yet, and certainly none with our style" - Todd
With Todd working in the restaurant industry since he was 15 and being one of the brains behind Eagle Boys success, it's safe to say that 5 Boroughs is just getting started.
5 Boroughs offers a great selection of New York inspired bites but with some true Aussie uniqueness; refreshing Union Station alcoholic ginger beer on tap, amazing waffle cut fries with chipotle mayo and even fried pickles!? Something I certainly haven't seen anywhere else!
At the end of the day, you're going probably going to be heading to 5 Boroughs for their burgers and ribs - here is where they flex their muscles; grass fed Angus beef from just over the NSW border (don't worry, they're much better at beef than they are at football!) combined with fresh local ingredients and always cooked medium rare (or to choice).
The 5B Classic and 5B Aloha Bacon and Cheese were the order of the day and shone through; a great balance of ingredients with a generous serving size. I'll be back for those ribs and pickles though!
A note for the observant; Todd and Marisa have some great photographs all around 5 Boroughs with many of the wall coverings consisting of photos by Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York (HONY) fame.
