Canberra Balloon Spectacular

The_Food_Avenue_Balloon_Spectacular7 Did you know Canberra is home to the Canberra Balloon Spectacular? The balloon festival is on for the next 9 days and celebrates its 29th year. It's a sight not to be missed!

Balloon pilots begin laying out and inflating their balloons on the lawns of Old Parliament House from 6.15am each day before heading skywards!

I went along to the first day of the festival and saw a hot air balloon being filled up! It doesn't take too long at all...

I couldn't believe the turnout! It was a super early start but it felt like almost everyone in Canberra showed up for the festival!

Pretty soon, we were surrounded by colour and excitement. We loved the novelty balloons! There's Yoda, Red Angry Bird, Dodo and my favourite - the black balloon with the cute face!

When and Where Dates: 7 – 15 March 2015 Venue: Lawns of Old Parliament House, King Edward Terrace, Parkes. Timings: Balloons inflate from 6.15am, launch from 6.30am – 7.00am, breakfast until 10.00am. Ballooning is completely weather dependent and flights may be delayed or cancelled as a result.
